Why confusing best practices with blue sky ideas is stalling your progress....
I love this clip from You, Me and Dupree. If you know anything about this movie, Dupree’s biggest decision every day is...to not make many decisions. Take a look at how he spins just how prime for action he is after decades of indecision:
"Some of you are just going to float along...that’s okay. Stay loose, stay liquid. Laugh a lot. But be ready. That’s what Dupree’s doing until I get the call from the Mother Ship. Then I fight. Then you see Dupree coming in here throwing seven different kinds of smoke."
The big idea here? We’re all like Dupree. Rarely taking action until we’re met with a need that the status quo can’t overcome any longer and we’ve got to step up. Sure, this works out for him situationally (and of course at the end of the movie), but what if things don’t go our way long enough to make it to the end?
The answer is simpler than you might think. All we need is a starting place. Think about it:
So how can we apply this same logic to connect and grow our brand and our audience? We need something to tether where we are now to where we want to be so we don’t just float along, create confusion at the cost of followers along the way.
